Evaluation of Models for Size Exclusion Chromatography of Asymmetric Solutes

چکیده

We consider two presentations regarding the size exclusion chromatography of highly asymmetric solutes: one is embodied in the statistical model of Giddings et al.;I the second is described by the concept of "end-on insertion" proposed by Tanford* and expanded upon by Meredith and N a t h a n ~ . ~ Our evaluation is based on measurements of Kfor the rigid rodlike and spherical solutes schizophyllan and ficoll, respectively, and also on measurements of the experimental flow rate dependence of Kw. The concept of "end-on insertion", as differentiated from standard statistical equilibrium considerations, does not seem to be defensible on fundamental grounds. However, the equilibrium "random pore" treatment of Giddings yields relationships which are incompatible with the current results. The role of the dynamics of solute motion is discussed vis-a-vis hypothetical limitations of equilibrium models.

Permeation of Small Molecules in Aqueous Size-Exclusion Chromatography Vis-à-Vis Models for Separation

KSEC, the chromatographic partition coefficient for sizeexclusion chromatography, is defined as the fraction of the column pore volume into which a solute can permeate. The column pore volume is commonly measured as the elution volume of a small molecule, e.g., D2O in the case of aqueous separations. We found that the elution volumes of a number of small molecules vary inversely with molecular ...

Evaluation of Models to Describe Temporal Growth in Local Chickens of Ghana

The logistic, Gompertz, Richards and asymmetric logistic growth curve models were fitted to body weight data of local Ghanaian chickens and French SASSO T44 chickens. All four growth models provided good fit for each sex by genotype growth data with R2 values ranging from 86.7% to 96.7%. The rate constant parameter, k, ranged between 0.137 and 0.271 and were significantly different from zero fo...

Size-Exclusion Chromatography of Carboxyl-terminated Dendrimers as a Model for Permeation of Charged Particles into Like-Charged Cavities

In order to examine the permeation of small charged colloids into cavities of like charge, size-exclusion chromatography was carried out with carboxyl-terminated dendritic polymers on a porous glass stationary phase. Chromatographic partition coefficients KSEC were measured for solute diameters ranging from 2 to 8 nm, at neutral pH, and ionic strengths from 0.01 to 0.09 M, and were reported rel...

Evaluation of Time Series Patterns for Wind Speed Volatilities in Anzali Meteorological Station

Abstract. One of the major problems in using wind energy is that wind-generated electricity is more unstable than electricity generated by other sources, and therefore integrating wind energy use with traditional power generation systems can be a challenge. This problem can be effectively reduced by having accurate information about the mean and wind speed volatilities. Therefore, in this paper...
